Have you ever wanted to borrow a book from a friend and they said no, not because they don`t want you to attain the knowledge or be engrossed in the story . . . "No" because they devised a theory where "you" will not take care of their book the way they do or would expect you to. Granted we are all different, we ascribe different levels of respect, value and worth to people and things, and we feel entitled to construct these judgement.
Throughout history there has been countless instances where sacred buildings, artefacts, texts ect. have been vandalised, destroyed or erased for one reason or another. You would ask questions like "Why would someone do something like that?" Of course fear, war, power struggle, ignorance ect. can be named as drivers for the acts in question, but when you sit and look at it, really look for the root of everything you might find a surprising answer . . .
Now you might be thinking what does lending a book to a friend and the destruction of sacred elements have to do with each other and what is the surprising answer . . .
Perhaps you should look at the self, be fully aware of you as an "individual", your thoughts and interactions with others. Do you think a particular friend will take care of your book the way you do, not bending the spine or folding the corners? Do you think all people need to be educated . . . educated in the sense that you classify education? Do you think it is against all logic if someone defaces or destroys a building . . . a building you deem sacred? Do you think all people should know God . . . the image you have of God?
Let me ask it this way . . . Do you think your friend should not be so pedantic about their books and lend it to you, after all you know how to take care of a book. What about when your education is being questioned, someone exhibiting a sense of entitlement towards you? What if someone came into your house and vandalised it? What if someone tried to tell you that you had the wrong idea of God . . . How do you feel?
We are all individuals, even if we grew up in a specific society, community, family . . we will always do things and think about things differently. In the end it comes down to the responsibility of the individual to consecrate their sense of being and most importantly respecting this responsibility of others . . . wheteher they take up the responsibility or not. For the only thing you can consecrate is what lies within yourself, external elements, even your body is subject to your environment, but when you consecrate your thoughts and actions and you become aware of your interaction with your environment . . . a new world opens up.
You realise every thought, every action, every reaction is sacred and has far reaching impact on others even if it is a most basic interaction. When you come to see that your basic is not the same as your neighbour, you open yourself up to learn what no textbook can ever teach . . . a new consecrated habituate.
